Vehicular crashes and slip and fall accidents are the most common forms of accidents producing personal injuries. In certain cases, these accidents produce fractures to the skull, spine or extremities. However, more frequently, these accidents produce injuries to the soft tissues or connective tissues, i.e. ligaments, tendons, muscles, discs, nerves and blood vessels. These injuries are difficult to assess, quantitative, and manage for the family practice doctor or internal medical specialist because of their limited exposure to neuromusculoskeletal differential diagnosis. In most cases, if the patient does not respond to anti-inflammatory and muscle relaxants in the first two weeks they have very little more to offer. Likewise, if the patient is not a surgical candidate, the orthopedic specialist has very little to offer these patients in the way of treatment.
Most of these patients are either referred to physical therapists by the family practice doctor, internists or orthopedic surgeon, or seek the help of a chiropractor. The combination of these two disciplines offers the best potential for optimum recovery, and rehabilitation of these soft tissue (connective tissue) injuries, in conjunction with properly administered medications as needed.
The doctors, therapists, and staff at Waldo Rehabilitation, Health and Wellness are adept in evaluating and managing and documenting these types of injuries occurring in these accidents. All reports and daily notes are typed. Patients receive discharge summaries outlining any permanent residuals or impairments. Free transportation is available for those patients who are within a 15 minute drive of the office if their car is in the shop or un-drivable. |
